Works Great!

This is my first time trying a sourdough starter. The instructions are very clear and everything went just fine. I went off the instructions after a while, because after the first time I removed half the starter, it lost all its bubbles for a few days. So I just kept adding more flour in smaller amounts and quit taking half out. After a couple days all the bubbles were back and I could start baking with it. I would highly recommend this starter for beginners!

Great Starter

I was told that I could not use home ground whole wheat flour for this culture, but I was successful at using it mixed with small amounts of white flour and kept my culture alive all last summer and made many loaves of bread, tortillas, pancakes, and more.

We're so happy to hear you're enjoying the Whole Wheat sourdough starter! Your recipes sound delicious!

Easy so far

My stater is nice and bubbly today so maybe I can make bread soon. Got the whole wheat starter. Make sure you add room temperature water and store in a place with proper temperatures.

Best daily bread!

The instructions were super easy to follow and the bread turned out amazing. Actually, I found out that it's quite forgiving and I can vary the times for feeding and such quite a bit and it still turns out delicious and perfect texture every time! I've been playing with the recipe based on https://nourishedkitchen.com/whole-grain-no-knead-sourdough/ and modifying it. My family is happy :)

Starter works great but I need more practice

As a total beginner bread baker, it was a bit frustrating. First attempt didn't work out very well for many reasons. The 2nd attempt produced bread but was a little denser than I liked. My biggest problem is I can't get the gluten to the window-pane stage after much kneading/dough stretching (gave up after an hour). I probably should've gotten the San Francisco sourdough starter as I've been told whole wheat is much harder to work with. Customer Service has been great giving me tips and ideas. I may take a break on bread making and look for some other recipes that doesn't require so much kneading. And if there is a big sale, I might give the San Francisco sourdough starter a try.
