Yogurt thickener and vegetarian substitute for gelatin

Naturally gelatinous, agar powder is derived from marine red algae and is a great vegetarian substitute for beef gelatin to thicken foods. Add to soups, jellies, and even yogurt!

How to Use Agar Powder
- Use to thicken homemade yogurt. For every 3-4 cups milk, dissolve ½ teaspoon powdered agar into the milk. Heat to 190 degrees F and hold for 10 minutes. Cool to culturing temperature and add culture.
- Use as a vegan substitute for gelatin by diluting 2 Tbsp of Agar Powder in 1 pint of water or fruit juice. Cook for 5 minutes and then add fruit or vegetables. Pour into mold and refrigerate until hard.
