Kombucha Starter Culture

Our Dehydrated Kombucha Starter Culture is the perfect way to experience Kombucha fermentation at home.

The live cultures are shipped in a dehydrated state, so it can stay on your shelf until you are ready to get started!

After rehydrating the SCOBY, simply add it to sweet tea and ferment away to make a healthy, soda-like kombucha with all the tart zing you want.

Making Kombucha at home is not only a great way to save money, but it also allows you to control the ingredients and make a healthier tea!

Our Dehydrated Kombucha Starter Culture is perfect for the “Laid back brewer” type.

Rehydrating the SCOBY takes about 4 weeks, and allows those new to kombucha brewing get the process underway. The rehydration process is fun to watch and a great way to learn about fermentation!

When your dehydrated SCOBY arrives, you do not have to get started right away - simply store in the refrigerator until you’re ready to go! A dehydrated SCOBY is a great addition to any larder or canned goods storage.

Received Kombucha starter culture (dehydrated scoby) for Christmas. I started the culture exactly by the directions. I started it Dec 26th. I purchased a seed starter heat mat to keep it warm to 85 degrees. Jan 25th I made my first batch. Nothing happened so I made a 2nd batch Feb 19th w/o vinegar at room temp (abt 65-68 degrees. still nothing happening.
March 4th I checked on it and I have green mold floating on top. I have made Kombucha in the past from a Scoby someone gave to me and never did I grow mold. I would not recommend using a dehydrated scoby. I will only source live scoby's from now on.

Hi Charlene, I am sorry your Kombucha is not turning out as expected! If you could send an email in to customersupport@culturesforhealth.com with your issue, they would be happy to troubleshoot your Kombucha! I will let them know to expect an email!
